STILLWATER, OKLA. – Murl Rogers (1917-1989), of Stillwater, Okla., was named posthumously to the Oklahoma State University Alumni Hall of Fame on Feb. 23, 2007.

The OSU Alumni Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed by the OSU Alumni Association. It is given as recognition of outstanding professional and personal achievement bringing honor and distinction to Oklahoma State University. Dr. William S. Spears of Dallas, Texas, and Justice Steven W. Taylor of McAlester, Okla. were also inducted.

Rogers was born on Nov. 12, 1917, on the family homestead near Quay, Okla. After graduating from Pawnee High School, Rogers attended Central State University before transferring to Oklahoma A&M.

After graduating in 1940 with a bachelor’s of science in agricultural education, Rogers taught at Perry High School. In the summer of 1942, Rogers joined the war effort by working in the Douglas Aircraft Factory in Tulsa until he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

In 1955, Rogers was hired as the first full-time executive secretary of the Oklahoma A&M Alumni Association. He spent 25 years with the Alumni Association, developing new, innovative programs. He worked with government officials for the improvement of roads and highways leading to Stillwater. He also developed the Alumni Achievement Fund that eventually became the OSU Development Foundation.

Rogers was a prominent civic leader. He belonged to the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Rotary Club and helped found the Stillwater Exchange Club.

Murl and his wife, Elizabeth, have five children who are all OSU alumni. Elizabeth Rogers accepted the award on behalf of her husband.
