Agricultural Communications Student Named National Udall Scholar OKState Press Release
Oklahoma State University students Sara-Jane Smallwood and Cortney Timmons are among 80 students from 60 colleges and universities selected to receive Morris K. Udall Scholarships. Smallwood and Timmons, both students in OSU’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, are the university’s fourth and fifth recipients of the national honor since the scholarship program began in 1996. 1940 Agricultural Education Graduate Inducted Into OSU Alumni Hall of Fame by Anne Scott
Murl Rogers (1917-1989), of Stillwater, Okla., was named posthumously to the Oklahoma State University Alumni Hall of Fame on Feb. 23, 2007.The OSU Alumni Hall of Fame is the highest honor bestowed by the OSU Alumni Association. It is given as recognition of outstanding professional and personal achievement bringing honor and distinction to Oklahoma State University. Dr. William S. Spears of Dallas, Texas, and Justice Steven W. Taylor of McAlester, Oklahoma will also be inducted. Complete story.

Agricultural Communicators Receive Zenith Awards
Students majoring in agricultural communications from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Oklahoma State University were presented public relations Zenith Awards Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Oklahoma City's Public Relations Society of America Career Night at the Bricktown Brewery in downtown Oklahoma City.

Hoey Receives Agricultural Education Graduate of Distinction Award by Nora Froeschle
Sand Springs agriculture teacher Paul Hoey grew up in the city, but he started thinking about being a farmer when he was in fifth or sixth grade after seeing an educational film. "I honestly believed, as a city kid, I could go to Alaska and be a farmer," said Hoey, who grew up in midtown Tulsa. "Wilderness and wildlife for me was Woodward Park or Swan Lake." Complete story.

Florence Receives Distinguished Alumnus Honor by Shelly Sitton
From FFA reporter to newspaper reporter to public relations executive, Russ Florence has forged his life around promoting the things in which he believes. Florence, a native of Alex, Okla., serves as senior vice president for Oklahoma’s oldest public relations firm: Schnake Turnbo Frank Inc. Complete story.

Congratulations to Faculty Members on Reappointment, Tenure and/or Promotion in Rank
Achieving tenure and promotion in rank at Oklahoma State University for a faculty member are important professional milestones. The OSU Board of Regents, at their June 2007 meeting, approved tenure and promotion from the rank of Assistant Professor to the rank of Associate Professor for Dr. D. Dwayne Cartmell and Dr. Penny Pennington.

Agricultural Education Teaching Academy

The Department of Agricultural Education, Communications and Leadership in conjunction with the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education, Chesapeake Energy Corporation, Oklahoma FFA Foundation and the Oklahoma Alumni Association provided the inaugural Future Agricultural Education Teachers Academy on the campus of Oklahoma State University June 18-22. Oklahomans Experience Culture Shock by Alex Northard
A team of 10 Oklahoma broadcast and communications specialists traveled to the West African country of Mali March 13 to 25 to work with Malian journalists and interview individuals to participate in summer internships at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. Complete story

Thailand Students by Kathleen Kelsey
The department is hosting a cohort of six students from Chiang Mai University, Thailand. The students will study research methods (AGED 5983) and a special problems course for 8 weeks while in Stillwater this summer.
